LOS ANGELES, March 10, 2006 – There are unconfirmed reports of a written agreement between Horowitz and the city that the evictions will not take place while the negotiations for the buy back of the land continue. The mayor’s office has made no public announcement to confirm or discount this and no copy of the said agreement has been made public.
The Los Angeles office of the Trust for Public Land confirmed today that they are in negotiations for trusteeship of the land, but the issue of evictions is not part of the terms of their negotiation.
A court will hear appeals from the farmer’s legal team on Monday challenging the evictions. In a phone call placed to the county sheriff department they stated that they have not received any orders calling off the eviction and the Notion to Vacate still stands.
It is unclear at this time exactly what legal and political actions are taking place behind the scenes, but the actions of the court this coming Monday could be crucial. ...
