Amidst the confusion of war, the Pacifica board has reorganized, stacking its board with supporters for itself, including former scandal plagued former DC mayor Marion Berry, and others who have clipped their grass roots. Some activists have accused the board of using the tragedy to its own advantage.
Activists have demanded a return of Amy Goodman to the air, but have been rebuffed. The actions of Pacifica management have been tarnished by mishandling of the WTC attacks. WBAI, located in Manhattan near the Towers, suffered a two day outage, while Goodman, also in the area, set up a studio and was broadcasting immediately. WBAI has also been slammed for substituting soothing music in place of "political" content from the airwaves, specifically removing a show focusing on hate crimes against South Asian and Arab Americans produced by Asian Pacific Forum.
The KPFK Listener's Forum is a public web board about the Pacifica crisis. It's attracted KPFK insiders to its discussions.
