ALERT: BULLDOZERS BACK ON FARM
SOUTH CENTRAL: July 6, 2006
3:45 PM Update – Eye witnesses from the farm say that the bulldozer is still operating and that most of the farm has been plowed under. The Old Walnut Tree is still standing at this time. The tree is said to be protected by city ordinance. There is no guarantee that Horowitz will respect that ordinance. Additional direct action plans have been halted due to injuries from yesterday’s police violence and the potential for more police violence.
Farmers have expressed gratitude to those who took action to defend the farm, but have asked that no one else put themselves at risk on their behalf. Police have been very brutal with those arrested yesterday and the courts are said to be setting very high bail for arrestees. Nine of the ten arrested yesterday have been released, one is still in jail and is set to be released soon.
Despite the destruction of their crops the farmers plan to continue fighting to take back the land.
