LOS ANGELES , October 17, 2006 - A coalition of groups seeking an end to the criminalization of youth by California’s juvenal prison system protested outside the campaign office of the current governor yesterday. At issue is the brutal treatment of youth, some as young as 12 years old, that are caught a system with a 75% recidivism rate. Families and friends of those who have been victimized by the system want it shut down and replaced with a program that provides real rehabilitation and education for their children.
