Steven Starr, a longtime member of the LA IMC collective, was named Interim General Manager for KPFK today. KPFK, the Los Angeles station of the Pacifica Network, has been one of the center points in a local and nationwide struggle to return the Pacifica stations to their
original mission of providing voice to the local community. With the successful settlement of four lawsuits, the first of which was brought by members of the KPFK Local Advisory Board, the station will begin its journey back to that mission. Mr. Starr, whose career has spanned the full range of media, will head an interim team in this transition.
Full Story.
Long-time IMC activist, Paul Rosenberg, who announced his resignation from IMC-LA working-group on Friday citing numerous problems with the group, characterized Starr as "a deal-maker" rather than an activist with the group. He posted a message detailing his position to the IMC, and comments have followed.
