The Coup staged by oil executives, corrupt union organizers and the Venezuelan corporate media, all despotic relics of Venezuela's leech-filled past government, was quelled on Sunday when the people of Venezuela rose up and demanded their democratically elected President be returned to office. The U.S. media, including an egregious spin-job by the LA Times, echoed the Bush party line in tacit support of the usurpers. Hector Tobar referred repeatedly to Chavez's ties to Castro and said he "espoused a fiery populist rhetoric and encouraged the growth of a cult of personality" while neglecting to mention in the article that he had been elected President by an overwhelming majority and had made vital inroads into stemming corruption in a country rich with natural resources but rife with inequality (80% of the country lived below the poverty line). In another article he states, "The president, a maverick populist whose nationalist policies have often run afoul of the United States" does more to reveal the truth - the third largest US oil exporter must do the bidding of the US or face the consequences.
