An estimated 250 people participated in a demonstration in Long Beach against police brutality and abuse. Early on, some people going to the event were ticketed by the LBPD, for
jaywalking, and one person arrested for reasons unknown at this time.
Speakers and participants came from all over the Southland, and included police brutality activists from Riverside, Orange County, greater Los Angeles, and Inglewood. The rally specifically highlighted the shooting of Marcella Byrd and the police harassment and arrests at the Long Beach Infoshoppe.
The march was spirited and peaceful, and and drew attention from residents, some of whom joined in with the march, cheered, or applauded. Long Beach, a largely working class city of 500,000, has a reputation for aggressive policing.
Another demo was announced in Downey on the 31st. organized by the October 22nd Coalition.
