Pico Canyon Road is being punched through the hills of
Valencia near the first
oil and
gold strikes in Southern California. While these historic sights are preserved, the natural history of the area is threatened.
The continuation of the road goes to the planned Newhall Ranch Development, a huge subdivision in one of the
last remaining natural river systems in Los Angeles County. Activists took to the trees to preserve a stand of 400 year old
oaks. There's
potentially a world of environmental activism around the development occuring here.
