Today's "Awards Rally for Peace" was a colorful celebration of the creative energies that have gained expression in the massive anti-war movement in Southerhn California ("seeds of liberation" a friend of mine calls them).
Midway through the rally, a group of demonstratiors formed a breakaway march, with the intent of going out to Highland Blvd. and perhaps block the long line of limos heading to the Oscars. It was a golden opportunity to peacefully show the world that we are not going along with Bush's immoral, illegal War on Iraq -- sitting down in Highland Blvd, would've almost certainly delayed the start of the Oscars. Sadly, the group got within a few feet of reaching Highland before the cops arrived on the scene and blocked them. The cops surrounded the marchers for the next 45 mins (until all the limos had passed) before letting them go.
All day long the cops were aggressive, but after 4:30pm or so, they became increasingly belligerent; resulting in some stunning instances of brutality. Read reports from the day: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Watch video from the demo. See photos: 1, 2
