Eleven women were arrested Wednesday morning for participating in a non-violent civil disobedience action in front of the downtown Federal Building. The event's organizers, Women of Conscience and the Global Women's Strike, are calling for an immediate end to Bush's War on Iraq. See
photos of the action.
The day's events began with a peace rally attended by over one-hundred people, including actor Martin Sheen. Speakers at the rally reiterated that the immense resources allocated for the Iraq War (i.e. for killing), should, instead, go towards the work of caregivers and the welfare of people (i.e. for life). The civil disobedience action began after the rally when eleven women carried a clothesline full of children's bloodstained clothes out into Los Angeles Street. The women succeeded in stopping traffic for around one-hour. A prominent, colorful banner stated "War is not Good for Children and Other Living Things - Invest in Caring not Killing."
And in Santa Ana an anti-war protest succeeded in shutting down Mater Dei High School. See photos from Santa Ana.
