An attendee of the Liberation Weekend conference has been targeted by the police for surveillance and harrassment. Earlier this past week, organizers were harrassed in Orange County. Activist Rob Middaugh, who was one of the arrestees at the 2001 May Day demos in Long Beach, was arrested for alleged parole violation as he was preparing to attend the conference. Recently, the federal police had tried to convict him on charges of assualt because he threw a soda can and some soda splashed on a police officer.
In past years, anarchists in Southern California were primarily targeted by local police forces, but more recently, since the Sherman Austin raid, the FBI has involved itself immediately. There is no indication that the young activists involved with the conference have done anything illegal.
