God & Country is a 2024 American documentary film directed by Dan Partland and produced by Rob Reiner. The film discusses the emergence of Christian nationalism and its close relationship with far-right politics in the United States, exploring its perceived threat to democracy and the politicization of Christianity. The documentary is based on Katherine Stewart's book The Power Worshippers (2020). Orange County members may recall that we hosted Katherine to discuss this book in 2020.
Christian nationalism is the belief that America should be defined as a Christian nation, with government adherence to this ideology. GOD & COUNTRY takes a closer look at the dangerous implications and explores how a base of Christians has radically stoked a movement erasing the line between Church and State. GOD & COUNTRY speaks directly to the almost 200,000,000 Americans who identify as Christians. Christians who fear their faith is being hijacked by an extreme right wing political movement known as Christian nationalism.
