The racist law gives state and local police the power to act as federal immigration enforcers. The lawmakers who wrote and supported this bill said it was necessary to appropriate the tasks of the federal government because the federal government wasn’t doing “enough” on immigration. The already brisk pace of the federal racist anti-immigrant campaign just was not fast enough for the racist ruling class in the state of Arizona.

“Queremos Trabajos, Los Migras Los Carajos!” This chant well summed up the feelings of more than 12,000 marched in downtown Los Angeles in the scorching heat of early spring in Los Angeles crying for real immigration reform and full rights for all immigrants last March 27, 2010. Inspired by the 600,000 turn out in Washington DC last March 21, the more than 12,000 rallyist spearheaded by the Full Rights For All Immigrants Coalition led by Hermanidad Mexicana and the Latino Movement-USA. The inspired and militant march started from the corner of Olympic and Broadway and was cheered by people from all walks of life who filled the sidewalks of old downtown. There were hundreds of American and other nationalities flags that flew held by thousands of demonstrators.

The April 7 Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition, of which ANSWER is a member, is part of a united front of all major immigrant rights organizations on May 1. There will be two marches that will unite for a mass rally in downtown Los Angeles that day. One will march from downtown and the other from MacArthur Park. Both will step off at 2 pm. This united day of action is an important step for the immigrant rights movement.

With these resounding chants, more than 75,000 immigrants and immigrant rights advocates under the banner of the April 7 Coalition marched and rallied for full rights for all immigrants last Saturday, April 7, 2007, in Los Angeles. Unlike the disparate and fewer numbers of mobilized activities last March 25, 2007, the April 7 Coalition march for full rights for all immigrants became one of the largest to be held in Los Angeles after May 1, 2006. This brings a new momentum for the immigrant rights movement in California. The conservative L.A Times estimated the crowd as 10,000 while the Latino Channel 34 estimate of the crowd was 50,000.
