The AJLPP as a part of the US based Free Burma Coalition in Los Angeles urged all freedom loving people of the world to step up pressure on Burma to free Suu Kyi and all other political prisoners so they could participate in this year’s election. “Make Aung San Suu Kyi’s 65th birthday her happiest ever by setting her free. She has been imprisoned for 15 years by the military junta who killed his father and now made her a prisoner for almost 15 years.” The AJLPP added.
PESANTE CONDEMNS MYMAR COURT DECISION ON AUNG SAN SUU KYI (tags)
The Philippine Peasant Support Network (Pesante)-USA strongly condemns the ‘s Myanmar court decision to convict Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi on Tuesday ( Aug 12 in Asia) of violating her house arrest by allowing an uninvited American to stay at her home. The head of the military-ruled country ordered the democracy leader to serve an 18-month sentence under house arrest. Pesante-USA exclaimed that “ The decision puts into shame the Obama-Arroyo meeting in which Obama congratulated Philippine president Gloria M. Arroyo on the Philippine advocacy for Aung San and Burma’s human rights situation”. Pesante pointed out: “ The US adherance on human rights for Burma is just lip service as it ignores the tragic human rights situation and the abuses of the Philippine military and Arroyo’s “culture of impunity” against all human rights victims in the Philippines.
Pesante USA Condemns Burma Junta for Suu Kyi Show Trials in Myanmar court (tags)
The Philippine Peasant Support Network (Pesante)-USA based in the United States, a member organization of AJLPP slammed Myanmar ( aka Burma) for its show-trial for democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi who proclaimed her innocence in front of a prison tribunal Friday as the prosecution wrapped up its case on the fifth day of her trial. Pesante also questioned the motives of the junta when It filed the charges against her just weeks before a May 27 deadline when her latest six-year spell of detention was due to expire. Pesante-USA said that the junta just wants to keep her locked up ahead of elections planned for next year under a controversial "roadmap to democracy" that enshrines a role for the military in government. The military has ruled Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, since 1962.
