San Diego Hosts Transgender Day of Remembrance (tags)
San Diego commemorated the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance Nov. 20 with a candlelight march through the streets of Hillcrest and a rally at the LGBT Community Center. The program featured community volunteers (pictured) reading the names of this year's 15 known victims of Trans-related murders and brief accounts of how each died.
CRITICS RAIL AGAINST SENATE PROMOTION OF GEN. CLARK (tags)
On Tues., Nov. 18, the senate confirmed a promotion of Major General Robert T. Clark to the rank of Lieutenant General, the Army's second highest rank. The senate confirmation drew rancor from the nation’s major Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Organizations, including the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC).
Security Alert: "Males Dressed As Females" To Be Scrutinized When Traveling (tags)
Just in time for the upcoming Southern Comfort Conference and the fall convention season, the government issued new alerts two weeks ago to airport security and law enforcement agencies, which will impact the transgender community. This most recent alert specifically mentions 'males … dressed as females.'
Equality for California Transgendered Citizens! Governor Signs Bill Into Law (tags)
California Governor Gray Davis presented the gift of freedom to thousands of his fellow Californians on Saturday, August 2nd. In signing AB196, which clarifies the state’s Fair Employment and Housing Act by including gender-identity and expression, Governor Davis brings California into a leadership position of a growing human rights struggle. California now becomes the most populous jurisdiction to enact equal rights for transgendered citizens.
TRANSGENDER ORGANIZATIONS OPPOSE BAIL BID (tags)
On July 16th, the lawyer for Michael Magidson -- the accused "key actor" in the brutal murder of transgender teenager Gwen Araujo -- will be attempting to get his $1.68 million dollar bail reinstated. Both the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition and the Remembering Our Dead project urges the court to keep Magidson behind bars.
