-The Echo park Community Coalition (EPCC) announces that the Filipino Cultural Group, will present SAYAW, SIGLA.SAYA SA PASKO- A “Filipino Cultural Show” on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium, 1401 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale, CA 91209. This early Christmas present is a fund raiser for some constructions and renovation at the St.Columban Filipino Parish in Historic Filipinotown. This historic landmark for Filipino-American history was built in 1965 and after more than 43 years needs much needed renovations.

The Coalition for A Better Community (CBC)'s 15-person slate led by former FACLA vice-president Rizalino > Manuel swept the Nov 16-18, 2008 Filipino American Community > of Los Angeles (FACLA) board of directors elections for the year 2009-2001. The elections was held and the counting of votes was conducted by a private elections agency hired by FACLA. The counting of vote and the formal declaration of the outcome of the elections was held in FACLA on Nov 16 and 18, 2008.

For every demand there is one key principle: improve the quality of child care.

Among other relevant historic events, it commemorates the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire (New York, 1911), where over 140 women lost their lives. March 8th Against the war is the call for this year’s International Women’s Day. The action is organized and coordinated by GABRIELA Network along with the initiating committee of the MA-AL. Dr. Enrile, National Chairperson of GABNet stated, “For too long the liberation of women has been used to legitimize the war. On March 9th, we stand together to declare that NO MORE will our just causes be used for such unjust actions.”

Over 50 people attended a progressive community "Mega Summit" in San Diego February 17. he Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC) Council will mobilize upcoming June 24 Immigrant Rights March-Rally in Hollywood and Vine, Los Angeles. The June 24th Hollywood march-rally will also demand a stop to the increase on exorbitant fees on citizenship and other documents for immigrants to be implemented by the DHS this July 30, 2007. The proposed compromise bill on “Border Protection and Immigration Bill” also known as the “grand bargain” supported by the White House fell flat last week and was rejected by the conservatives in the Senate. The debate on the bill was not stopped by a narrow margin during the senate voting.

PLAN Conference for Progressive Activists Draws 350+ From Over 160 Groups (tags)
LA, October 21. Saturday, hundreds of activists from over 160 different organizations came together for the first comprehensive political gathering since the terrorist attacks on September 11th. Originally, a 6-month progress report on how those commitments were faring was a major rationale for the planning of this conference, but the planners and presenters did an admirable job of reorienting their focus to deal with the radically changed and highly fluid circumstances in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
