Facing a strike at the three largest grocery chains in southern California ? Ralph's, Albertson's and Vons ? the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 135 prepared this list of stores in San Diego County which they represent and which will NOT be involved in the likely upcoming strike. Since at this time they have not posted this list on their own Web site, http://www.ufcw135.org, Mark Gabrish Conlan and Zenger's Newsmagazine are making it available as a public service. Please help support this action by reposting this list and spreading it far and wide on the Web, and hopefully this will give the union leadership the message that they need to join the 21st century and promote this list on their own Web site.

Hay utilizar máxima precaución al salir manejando en estos fines de semana que comprenden días feriados como el Día del Trabajo. La policía muchas veces recibe financiamiento que proviene directamente de la gente más humilde que es negada el derecho de trasladarse en auto. The "Year of the Checkpoint" continues relentlessly. This weekend's list of media-announced checkpoints follows. Maximum precaution is recommended for those who drive, particularly on holiday weekends. Law enformcement agencies often receive monies that come directly from the poorest, who in many states are denied the right of automobility. Moreover, there are schemers who promise to alert immigrants and civil liberties defenders about checkpoints, who later reveal that they charge high rates for the service. (See this article by a Pennsylvania journalist.) It is always better to count on your own comrades from your communities.

REDLANDS, California - In a youthful and spirited demonstration, a group of about 75 protested the racist Arizona law SB 1070, which requires police to check the immigration status of anyone suspected of being paperless and prohibits looking for work or workers in public, effectively banning day labor. The protesters marched through the busy farmer's market and street fair on State Street, braving some ugly opposition before returning to their initial rally point of the corner of Orange Street and Redlands Boulevard for a final demonstration of conscience at the end of the blocked-off street.

Hollywood March to CNN Sat. 03-22 (tags)
Approximatly 40,000 people march to the CNN building. The crownd stayed there about one hours listening to the messages of peace from Tim Robbins, Pedro Almodovar, and others. At 3:15 p.m. about 50 people sat in the middle of the street at the intersection of Hollywood boulevard and Vine. The mounted police came to intimidate the demonstrators, and make them leave. I left at 4:30 p.m. I assume that most of the people who participated in the sit-in were arrested.

Report on 03-21-03. We had another tense evening in Westwood and West LA. The police tried again to intimidate the protesters with their excessive show of force. Many people got arrested, but the march went on anyway. The demonstrators put on another good show for the world to see. It felt so good to be there again with these beautiful people. Today (03-22-03) the demonstration on Hollywood boulevard and Wine at 12 Noon should be another huge success. I see you all there.

We did it again, but we did it better this time. And we will do ever better tomorrow and after tomorrow. Hundreds of protesters sat on Wilshire boulevard, stopping the traffic for nearly two hours. This time we held our ground for nearly 2 hours. The Police didn't drag us to the sidewalk this time.
