Protestors gathered outside of LA Superior Court yesterdayas planned, and chanted “Justice for Carlos Montes, drop the charges.” 2 of the 6 felony charges against Montes were dropped becuase the statutue of limitations had expired. In the discussion of the dismissal motion, the prosecution admitted that Department of Justice records on Montes’ legal history were contradictory. Montes contends the prosecution is motivated by a desire put a damper on his social and political activism with baselss charges. Montes is currently urging people to protest against NATO on May 20, 2012 in Chicago.

District Attorney Lee apparently believes it is his duty to dictate how events such as the occupation of the vacant bank at 75 River Street should be reported on by the media, and if he does not approve of the coverage, then journalists risk the DA bringing charges against them.

Tuesday, August 15, 3pm. Approx 45 persons were walking along the sidewalk to local fur stores, loudly chanting against the fur industry. The cops descended en masse illegally arresting them all, including one of the legal observers not directly involved. All were charged with felony conspiracy to commit vandalism. Charges were dropped against all but two of the 45 arrested.
