A Radical Proposal: Open the U.S.-Mexico Border (tags)
That's what immigrant rights activist David Schmidt called for at a September 21 meeting of Activist San Diego. Originally called to discuss the closure of Friendship Park along the U.S.-Mexico border, the meeting expanded into a consideration of border issues in general. Schmidt and his better-known co-speaker, Enrique Morones of Border Angels and Marcha Migrante, both questioned why under NAFTA and similar “free trade” agreements, capital, commerce and corporations are allowed to move freely across national boundaries — while workers are trapped inside their home countries and routinely exploited for the greater profits of capital. If business is free to locate wherever it wants, workers should be too, they said.
Dems, Media Elite Overreacted to Gov. Sarah Palin (tags)
When John McCain picked Gov. Sarah Palin to be his VP running mate, most Americans yawned: “Sarah, Who?” Not the Democrats and the Media Elite. They tossed a first-class hissy fit. One of the worse offenders was the site, “HuffPost.” It even created a special page posting a lot ot negative rumors about the “working mom.” Meanwhile, GOP speakers, like the pro-Iraq War, pro-waterboarding Sen. Joe Lieberman, got off the hook with little criticism.
William Kristol, Neocon: Never Having to Say You’re Sorry! (tags)
Tommy Tomorrow, the cartoonist, said that William Kristol’s career as a warmonger had “failed upward!” On Aug. 11, 2008, activist Russell Mokhiber picketed the NYT’s office and demanded that Kristol, who was recently named to its Op Ed Page, meet with severely wounded Iraq War veteran, Tomas Young. Young is featured in Phil Donahue’s film, “Body of War.” Being a repulsive Neocon, like Kristol, means you never have to say you’re sorry.

Will Ben Stein Come Clean about the Iraqi War? (tags)
Ben Stein is a Neocon, author and comedic actor. He was also an ex-speech writing hack for Richard Nixon. He recently wrote an online piece in which he praised the U.S. troops as society’s “real stars.” What he left out of his spiel, however, was that he is a War Hawk, who helped to put those same troops in harm’s way based on a pack of lies. Stein has also claimed that the horrific abuse of inmates at Abu Ghraib was only “frat-boy mistreatment!”
