In December 2019 in Honduras, within one week of each other, a Tolupan leader and a Pech leader were disappeared and their body found within a week. There were attempts against black Garífuna organisers and community members. A lawyer was attempted against in Choluteca. Grassroots organisations also attacked in Choluteca and in Aguan. With the way this case is being handled (more on that later), psychotic NYPD almost-sergeant Gilberto Valle may go free even though he faces life in prison. If this happens, will all inmates worldwide doing time for “conspiracy” automatically become political prisoners? This story seems very under-reported, at least on antenna TV. It has also been a remarkably “speedy trial,” taking place 3 months after the arrest, in federal court. Marathon to Free Magdalena García Durán and Atenco Prisoners (tags)
Things are moving faster in the struggle to free the Mazahua indigenous rights leader Magdalena García Duran, recognized by Amnesty International as a prisoner of conscience, and all the political prisoners arrested in San Salvador Atenco in central Mexico on May 3 and 4, 2006.
