LA Weekly promotes a slanted view of Pacifica/ KPFK (tags)
LA Weekly produced an article about Pacifica, which involves KPFK of course, that was apparently biased and the writer maybe even was a prior student of Cooper whom he liked to quote as if an "expert" but may not at all be so. The letters written to LA Weekly were on line and in print 2 more times to display the local concerns. This Open letter to their Editor is to respond to all 3 of those print-postings.

Mexican Drug Cartels operating in the U.S. through street gangs (tags)
Mexican Drug Cartels have reached across the international border into the United States to kill people including Americans and their reach extends North, East and West across our nation. MDC’S have ordered the killings of drug dealers, American gang members, U.S. Consulate employees, a Detention Officer with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, DEA agent, ICE informant and U.S. Military personal. MDC’S are also responsible for many kidnapping’s of Americans on American soil and have taken Americans to Mexico to be tortured, maimed and murdered, with very little or no retaliation from the U.S. Government.

KPFK's General Manager Search Committee turned into a farce when 2 staff members, later to join the search committee, put the station at risk of a lawsuit to spread the word that they wouldn't have another Black woman and one who supports immigrants for their general manager.

How the Weekly Brews a Tempest in a Teapot (tags)
Let me be clear that I know nothing more about the internal workings of the South Central Farm than the L.A. Weekly reported in its March 15 muckraking article, "Bushel of Complaints" by Daniel Hernandez. So I've borrowed those facts and added a somewhat different spin. Here's my version.

What's Behind the Attacks on the RCP and What's at Stake (tags)
On September 27, 2001, only 16 days after the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center, the Washington Times ran an article entitled "Communists, Go Home." Ostensibly in response to a long-planned Washington mobilization against the World Bank and International Monetary Fund by forces in the anti- globalization movement, this article was a very clear call to put communists in the government's crosshairs immediately after 9/11.

Response to Marc Cooper (tags)
Marc Cooper's cynical screed in last weeks LA Weekly is crushed by Carole LaFleme's analysis. This letter was rejected by LA Weekly. Cooper would rather attack those against the war rather than those perpetrating the crime.

1999 Letter to LA Weekly re: slanted coverage about Pacifica (tags)
In July 1999, the LA Weekly published an article on the conflict surrounding Pacifica's lockout of the KPFA staff in Berkeley. Though that article was vastly superior in reportage to Ella Taylor's recentwork, then as now, the coverage was slanted and erroneous. This letter was sent to the Weekly in response.
